Govt Cuts Advance Tax on Mid-Range Imported Phones by 89%

A new mobile phone import tax cut lowers advance income tax from Rs930 to Rs100 on imported handsets priced between $101 and $200.

Advance income tax on imported smartphones valued between $101 and $200 dropped from Rs930 to Rs100.

The mobile handset levy on the same segment has been cut by two-thirds, down from Rs600 to Rs200.

General sales tax remains unchanged at 18% for phones up to $500 and 25% for devices above $500.

SIM activation charges remain steady at a fixed sales tax of Rs250 per card.
