Mustafa Kamal signals local plant for three vaccines soon
Health Minister Mustafa Kamal said an Indonesian firm deal is near, after inspections for a plant that would make three of 13 imported vaccines at home.
Mustafa Kamal said Pakistan is close to signing with Indonesia’s Bio-Farma for a plant to make three vaccines locally.
An Indonesian team recently finished inspections in Pakistan for that local vaccine production plan.
Of 13 vaccines now imported from Bio-Farma, three would use technology transfer for domestic manufacture.
Agreements worth $400 million aim to build local plants for APIs—the raw materials used in medicines.
By 2031 Pakistan is expected to fund vaccine buying fully, with the annual bill then estimated at $1.2 billion.
