Pakistan housing deficit tied to rapid urbanization, UN says
UN-Habitat Pakistan’s deputy programme manager says the country must expand adequate, affordable and disaster-ready homes as cities grow fast and informal settlements spread.
UN-Habitat Pakistan’s Hamid Mumtaz Khan said the country needs affordable, adequate and climate-resilient housing.
He linked the housing deficit to rapid urbanization and recurring natural disasters.
Unplanned city growth, he said, is expanding informal settlements and slums.
Disasters have intensified Pakistan’s housing challenges, according to his remarks in Islamabad.
