Awais Leghari says Pakistan owes Iran $12m in power dues
Energy Minister Awais Leghari told the National Assembly the dues to Iran’s Tavanir are being cleared in instalments under a deal supplying up to 204MW to Makran.
Pakistan currently owes about USD12 million to Iran’s state power utility Tavanir for electricity used in southwestern Balochistan.
Energy Minister Awais Leghari said imports can reach 204MW under a November 2002 agreement covering the Makran region, including Gwadar.
Pakistan must pay for 30 million kilowatt-hours a month whether or not that power is fully used; dues are being paid in instalments.
