Pakistan cites about 6,000 TTP fighters in Afghanistan

Islamabad on Monday cited a U.N. monitoring report estimating about 6,000 Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan fighters in Afghanistan and demanded verifiable action.

Pakistan's information ministry said on Monday that the Afghan Taliban had not stopped militants from planning and launching attacks from Afghan territory.

It cited U.N. Security Council document S/2025/796, which it said estimated about 6,000 TTP fighters in Afghanistan and noted Taliban support for the group.

The ministry rejected the Afghan Taliban spokesperson's remarks as an attempt to shift attention to Pakistan's internal affairs.

Pakistan said dialogue depends on verifiable action against militant hideouts, and that it will use lawful means to protect its citizens and territory.

The ministry also criticised the ban on girls' secondary schooling and on women at universities since August 2021.
