India and Israel alone oppose Pakistan UN arms resolution
The UN General Assembly First Committee backed a Pakistan-Belarus text on regional conventional weapons control; only India and Israel voted no, while Washington, Beijing and Moscow voted yes.
The UN General Assembly First Committee approved a Pakistan- and Belarus-sponsored resolution on conventional arms control at regional and sub-regional levels with 180 votes.
Only India and Israel voted against; the United States, China and Russia voted in favour.
India’s UN mission said security concerns cannot be limited to a regional frame and that the UN Disarmament Commission has already agreed related guidelines.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said the vote shows strong international support for its arms-control proposals.
A separate Pakistan-backed text on confidence-building measures in regional and sub-regional contexts was adopted without a vote.
