HEC: 56 Pakistani universities in THE World Rankings 2027
HEC chair Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar told a National Assembly education committee that more Pakistani universities now appear in major QS and THE lists, while funding and global recognition remain constraints.
QS Asia University Rankings list 83 Pakistani universities in 2026, up from 29 in 2020.
THE Asia Rankings include 48 Pakistani universities in 2026, up from 14 in 2020.
QS World Rankings 2027 feature 18 Pakistani universities, including two in the top 500.
THE World Rankings list 56 Pakistani universities in 2027; 22 were in the global top 1,000 in 2026.
HEC cites budget limits, weak industry links and limited global recognition as ongoing challenges.
