Patakha Pictures marks five years backing new women makers
At a Karachi night this month, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s SOC Films project introduced eight women for Claim the Frame 2026 and restated plans for a lasting training base.
A Karachi gathering this month marked five years of Patakha Pictures under SOC Films and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
Since 2022, 76 early-career makers have received help; their films have taken 22-plus prizes and played at 100-plus festivals abroad.
Claim the Frame 2026 brings eight women from Punjab, Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan into four teams with grants and coaching.
Partners are the British Council Pakistan and the Scottish Documentary Institute; Edit Week is held in Karachi.
Obaid-Chinoy said she wants a lasting place where younger storytellers can train and work together.
