Shehbaz and JI move to extend fuel relief to diesel
Islamabad and Jamaat-e-Islami are shaping a joint plan that could bring diesel into the scheme and deepen per-litre relief for newly enrolled households.
Cabinet side and JI have an in-principle deal to enlarge the existing petrol relief list by as many as five million people and to bring diesel in on a limited basis.
Eligible buyers could pay roughly Rs30–Rs40 less per litre if working groups lock in the outline.
A six-member joint panel—three from each side—will draft how far enrolment can stretch and how to phase down the petroleum levy.
Locally made diesel has already been reduced by Rs32 a litre after it was unhooked from world prices amid JI talks.
Final rules on who qualifies and how large the discount will be still wait on those committees.
