PTA blocks WhatsApp accounts on inactive, cancelled SIMs

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has begun blocking WhatsApp accounts linked to inactive SIM cards.
Officials said the step follows an awareness drive telling users to keep WhatsApp on active numbers they still hold.
Inactive numbers can be reissued to new subscribers, risking loss of account control or unauthorised access.
Users who changed numbers are told to use WhatsApp’s number-change feature to move their registration.
