FBR resists further Tax Year 2026 income tax filing extension

Bar associations want a fuller filing window after two 15-day extensions, while Federal Board of Revenue sources say no further relief is planned and non-filers may face heavy penalties.

The Pakistan Tax Bar Association has asked the FBR for 34 more days to file Tax Year 2026 income tax returns.

The formal cut-off is Saturday, 31 October 2026; a legal reading may push the effective date to Monday, 2 November 2026.

By 29 October 2026 the FBR had 7.3 million returns and Rs85 billion in related revenue, versus 6.8 million and Rs88.5 billion a year earlier.

Two 15-day extensions have already been granted; FBR sources say no further extension is planned.

The Lahore Tax Bar Association has also pressed for the full statutory filing period.
