Punjab Assembly exempts DGRE seminaries from re-registration
The Societies Registration (Amendment) Bill 2026, passed by majority in Lahore, lifts provincial re-registration for madaris on the federal DGRE list, including those added later.
The Punjab Assembly passed the Societies Registration (Amendment) Bill 2026 by a majority vote in Lahore.
Seminaries registered with the federal Directorate General of Religious Education (DGRE) will not need to re-register under Punjab law.
The exemption also covers seminaries that register with the federal directorate in future.
A new sub-section 1A will be inserted in Section 21 of the Societies Registration Act.
The bill now goes to the Punjab governor for final approval.
