Punjab Child Marriage Act Rules Not Yet Framed, Group Says
The Punjab Child Marriage Restraint Act 2026 sets 18 as the minimum marriage age for boys and girls, but its rules have not been framed, the group said in an open letter to Maryam Nawaz.
Rwadari Tehreek Pakistan has urged Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to frame and notify rules under the Act without delay.
The Act, enacted in April 2026, sets 18 as the minimum marriage age for both boys and girls.
The group says the rules are not yet framed, leaving Nikah registrars, police and courts without clear procedures.
Proposed rules include CNIC and NADRA Form-B checks, penalties for violators, and a trial within the 90 days the law mandates.
The group cited a Lahore case in which a review petition gives a NADRA-recorded date of birth of October 7, 2012.
