Punjab plans wheat on 16.5 million acres this season
In Multan, Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani tied the acreage goal to food security and spelled out seed support, Kissan Card funds and fertiliser readiness for growers.
Punjab's wheat sowing target for this season is 16.5 million acres, announced in Multan on Wednesday.
The chief minister cleared Rs450 million so farmers can buy certified seed from the Punjab Seed Corporation.
Rs150 billion is available via the Kissan Card for inputs; Rs425 billion in interest-free card loans was disbursed over about two and a half years.
Approved seed must sell at Rs7,000 a bag; a proposed grower price of Rs4,500 per maund was described as strong support.
