Pakistan LNG cargo attacked after Iran transit nod
Al Mayeda, sailing under a Marshall Islands flag with fuel meant for Pakistan, came under fire in the Gulf hours after Tehran signalled clearance; the crew is unhurt and Qatar is probing the strike.
Al Mayeda, a Nakilat-owned Qatar LNG carrier bound for Pakistan, was hit near Hormuz on Friday by unknown means.
Pakistan had sought Iranian clearance for the Marshall Islands-flagged voyage only hours before the strike.
Nakilat and India’s shipping minister say all 25 crew, including six Indians, are safe; Qatar has opened a probe.
It remains uncertain whether this consignment will still land in Pakistan.
Spot LNG is already far costlier than before the regional conflict, raising winter fuel-bill risks if a replacement is needed.
