Sanaullah cites terrorism failures in backing federal KP role
Rana Sanaullah’s remarks on KP affairs, made Sunday in Islamabad, linked the federal decision to worsening law and order and alleged provincial failures in tackling terrorism.
Rana Sanaullah, adviser to the prime minister on political affairs, on Sunday supported the federal decision to assume the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s role.
He cited deteriorating law and order and alleged failures in tackling terrorism, and accused elements in the provincial government of weak support for counterterrorism operations.
He said the immediate priority is to improve law-enforcement agencies and the civil administration so areas cleared of militants can be held by civilian authorities.
He said negotiations in the preceding week were followed by the provincial side withdrawing from understandings that had been reached.
He argued that weaknesses in the police, the Counter Terrorism Department and the civil administration under the former PTI-led provincial government had undermined lasting peace.
