Sam Altman memory shortage blame hits desktop PC users
OpenAI’s chief says scarce DRAM sits unused in home machines, while analysts note AI buyers have locked large shares of memory output and consumers push back.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said ordinary users keep limited DRAM idle in personal computers.
He argued cloud data centres use memory more efficiently than home desktops.
SanDisk says data centres now take about 50% of NAND flash bit demand industry-wide, not a lock on its own output through the decade.
OpenAI has reportedly secured about 40% of global RAM production via supply deals.
Elon Musk and many consumers said everyday people also deserve access to RAM.
