SBCA audit: 740 dangerous Karachi buildings still stand

An Auditor General of Pakistan review of the Sindh Building Control Authority cites undemolished dangerous buildings, slower permits and missing sale NOCs.

An Auditor General of Pakistan audit of the Sindh Building Control Authority says 740 dangerous buildings in Karachi have still not been demolished.

Demolition contracts were awarded without the machinery and technical expertise needed for the work, the audit says.

Building permits under the single-window system took 50.85 days on average, against about 14 days under the manual system in 2019.

Permits were issued without the mandatory NOC for sale and advertising, raising legal risk for buyers.

Irregularities were also flagged in New Nazimabad and Globe Residency One and Two, including unlicensed builders and extra floors without required tests.
