SBP may lift rate by 50 bps as inflation hit 11.1% in August

The SBP interest rate in Pakistan could rise to 12% on 26 October, after being held at 11.5% since April, as double-digit inflation and a rebounding economy complicate the call.

The SBP's monetary policy meeting is on Monday, 26 October, and reports say the bank may raise its policy rate by 50 basis points to 12%.

The policy rate has been kept unchanged since April, most recently at 11.5%.

Headline inflation rose to 11.1% year on year in August, up from 9.2% in July, against a target range of 5% to 7%.

The economy grew 2.8% in the third quarter of 2026 after a 0.6% contraction in the second quarter, while the real interest rate sits below its historical average of about 2.5%.
