SBP Monday decision eyed as markets tip 50bps rate hike

The Monetary Policy Committee will decide whether to lift the key rate from 11.5 per cent, with most experts tipping a 50-basis-point move as inflation and oil costs rise.

The State Bank of Pakistan will announce its monetary policy decision on Monday after an MPC meeting.

The policy rate stands at 11.5 per cent; markets largely expect a 50-basis-point increase, with some calling for up to 100.

The MPC last raised the rate by 100 basis points in April and held it steady in July and September.

The central bank aims to bring inflation into a 5–7 per cent medium-term target range.
