Senate tables gas price adjustment bill for quarterly rates

The federal government has put before the Senate a plan for three-monthly natural gas price reviews, changing how OGRA advises on prescribed rates and when public hearings are required.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry tabled the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the Senate on Friday.

The bill would add Section 8A to the OGRA Ordinance, 2002, for quarterly review of wellhead and imported gas (including RLNG) costs.

OGRA would advise the federal government on revised prescribed prices; the government would then set retail minimum charges and sale prices within 30 days.

Mandatory public hearings for Section 8A prescribed-price revisions would be abolished under an amendment to Section 9.

The Senate chair referred the bill to the Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat for further review.
