Shehbaz Sharif says Centre had to impose KP emergency
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the Centre acted after failed talks and what he called a lack of provincial cooperation on counterterrorism.
PM Shehbaz Sharif said on Saturday the Centre was “compelled” to impose emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The federal government imposed those measures on 11 October, citing the provincial government’s “deliberate disengagement” from the fight against terrorism.
Parliament endorsed the decisions this week amid opposition protests.
A second round of talks with the PTI on 3 October ended without a breakthrough, the prime minister said.
He said he had met KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, whose role he described as now non-functional, and former CM Ali Amin Gandapur.
