Sindh rabies toll reaches 40; victim skipped post-bite care

A septuagenarian from Baldia Town died at JPMC after a dog bite weeks earlier went untreated, taking Sindh’s yearly rabies fatalities to 40, officials said.

Officials said Sindh’s rabies death toll this year rose to 40 after a septuagenarian died at JPMC on Thursday.

The Baldia Town resident was bitten by a dog more than three weeks earlier and did not seek preventive treatment.

JPMC has recorded over 11,000 dog-bite cases and 10 rabies deaths this year, including this case.

Recent fatalities include a 38-year-old man from Diplo, Tharparkar, and a 12-year-old boy from Hyderabad.

Experts urge awareness, humane dog-population control, and ready hospital treatment; rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms start.
