Sindh growers fear wheat sowing hit by winter water crunch
The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture's Larkana chapter says ongoing Sukkur Barrage repair work could leave the province short of irrigation water this winter and disrupt wheat sowing.
The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA) Larkana chapter fears a severe irrigation shortfall this winter because of ongoing Sukkur Barrage repairs.
It warned that the shortfall could badly disrupt wheat sowing across the province.
SCA Larkana division president Syed Siraj Aulia Rashdi chaired a Sunday meeting that also reviewed wheat, sugar cane, cotton and rice growers' problems.
Growers sought fair wheat support prices, timely cane crushing and payments, stable paddy prices, and direct subsidies on fertiliser, tube-well electricity and pesticides.
The chamber urged the Sindh government to promote mustard with certified seed and incentives where tube wells cannot supply freshwater.
