Skardu Highway Landslide Halts Traffic on Gilgit-Skardu Road

A Skardu highway landslide has shut the Jaglot-Skardu Highway to all vehicles since Thursday, and officials have not yet given a date for reopening.

A landslide has closed the Jaglot-Skardu Highway to all traffic, cutting the road link between Gilgit and Skardu.

The slide came down on Thursday, and the exact location and extent of the damage were not immediately available.

Excavators and other heavy machinery are clearing debris, and officials want the route reopened as soon as possible.

No reopening date has been announced; traffic stays suspended until the debris is removed and the road is judged safe.

Motorists travelling in either direction are urged to check road conditions before leaving.
