Sohail Afridi, Speaker Swati under house arrest: Kundi

Faisal Karim Kundi said the former KP chief minister and assembly speaker are under house arrest and may be freed if no cases exist, as relatives seek their recovery in court.

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said Sohail Afridi and Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati are under house arrest and “in safe hands”.

Afridi has not been seen publicly since governor’s rule and an emergency were imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Oct 11.

Kundi said both men would face indictment if cases exist, or release if none; he offered a further update the next day.

He called the emergency a last resort and said, in a personal view, it may last beyond six months to align anti-terror efforts.
