SpaceX locks $40B financing for AI chips via Apollo

An Apollo-managed entity will buy the GPUs and server hardware, then lease them to SpaceX for about five years, with leases due to start in the first half of 2027.

SpaceX disclosed a binding commitment for roughly $40 billion to finance AI chips and related data-centre equipment.

An Apollo Global Management–managed entity will buy the hardware and lease it to SpaceX for about five to five-and-a-quarter years.

The company expects the deal to close by year-end, with leases beginning in the first half of 2027 as equipment arrives.

CFO Bret Johnsen said the lease diversifies funding and that AI infrastructure investments are seeing payback periods of less than one year.

Apollo said the financing will help deliver Nvidia’s next-generation Vera Rubin chips for SpaceX’s terrestrial compute buildout.
