Trump Iran peace deal a 'waste of time', president says
At a Mississippi rally, the US president said he never liked the Islamabad MoU; Iran's foreign ministry accused Washington of treating pledges as disposable.
US President Donald Trump told a Mississippi rally he never liked the Pakistan-brokered Iran ceasefire and called it a waste of time.
The June Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, mediated with Pakistan and Qatar, set a 60-day window for a lasting deal, covering the nuclear file and the Strait of Hormuz.
Washington and Tehran later accused each other of violations, and the ceasefire broke down.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Trump's admission showed US diplomatic commitments were hollow.
