Ukraine Russia emergency apps hacked with fake nuclear alerts

False air-raid, chemical and nuclear warnings reached phones overnight as Kyiv and Moscow said their emergency alert apps had been compromised.

Ukraine’s public air-raid app began sending false radiation, chemical and combat warnings just before 11 p.m. GMT+2 Sunday, including for Kyiv.

Ukraine’s air force said the system looked hacked, stressed there was no radiation threat, and noted the alerts appeared in Russian.

Ukraine’s Ministry for Digital Transformation temporarily suspended the app; sirens and other alert channels kept working.

Russia’s Emergencies Ministry said its mobile app was also hit hours later and that experts were restoring it; it called the app a supplementary channel.

A pro-Ukrainian group, Atesh, claimed the Russian app breach; Ukraine’s air force blamed Russia; who carried out the attacks has not been independently confirmed.
