Cabinet shifts wartime petrol premium into Rs14.71 relief
Cabinet ordered refineries to surrender wartime motor-spirit premiums into the petroleum levy, worth about Rs14.71 a litre and Rs15 billion a month for 30 days.
Federal ministers say the government arranged about Rs15 per litre petrol relief by shifting the burden onto local refineries, at roughly Rs15 billion a month.
An OGRA letter to the Petroleum Division sets the surrender at Rs49.02 a litre into the petroleum levy account, equal to Rs14.71 a litre toward the Rs80 levy.
The revised motor spirit pricing runs for 30 days after the mechanism changed from 31 October, using the 7 March 2026 premium as the baseline.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said more than 15 million people have received Rs27 billion under the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said a follow-up meeting with refinery representatives was set for Tuesday to refine the arrangement.
