Taxila crowd frees ASI after talks over Akmal death

Relatives say officers beat the 45-year-old beside Khanpur Road as his young child watched; after hours of road blockage, talks freed the ASI and a probe was pledged.

Akmal Khan, 45, died in Taxila on Saturday after relatives alleged a roadside beating by police.

The clash was linked to a parking dispute at the Jandial post on Khanpur Road, with his seven-year-old said to have been present.

Mourners detained an ASI outside THQ Hospital and shut the Taxila–Haripur link for hours.

Talks with senior officers ended the sit-in; the ASI received treatment and was moved to an unnamed site.

Rawalpindi police pledged a fair inquiry; Barrister Aqeel Malik told the Rawalpindi CPO to investigate openly.
