On Saturday in Taxila, 45-year-old Akmal Khan died after his family alleged that officers had beaten him during a quarrel about leaving a vehicle by the roadside. Grief and anger followed: residents detained an assistant sub-inspector, stopped traffic on the main link toward Haripur, and pressed for those named in the claim to answer under the law.
How the clash was described
According to the bereaved household, the encounter began at the Jandial post along Khanpur Road. They say an ASI, two constables and a food-department staffer confronted Akmal Khan over parking, and that blows were struck while his seven-year-old child stood nearby. Those assertions come from the family; guilt or innocence has not been settled by a court.
Sit-in, road closure and release
After the death, mourners took the body to Museum Road outside the tehsil headquarters hospital and kept the ASI with them, saying he was also hit. For several hours the Taxila–Haripur corridor stayed shut. Tariq Mehboob, SSP Operations, and Ch Asar Ali, SP for the Potohar Division, reached the scene with a large contingent that included elite units and female officers. Talks then wound down the gathering without fresh clashes. The officer walked free, received care and was taken somewhere officials did not name. Once autopsy work at THQ Hospital finished, the remains went to the family.
Gridlock and what officials said next
The stoppage backed up Railway Road, Faisal Shaheed Road and the Taxila–Hattar link. People on buses and vans lost more than four hours. Ambulances could not move freely, leaving sick passengers stranded, and visitors met the same jam while the body lay near the museum.
Rawalpindi police, via their media wing, said a case process had started and that anyone found at fault would face consequences once a fair inquiry ends. Barrister Aqeel Malik, who holds the federal state portfolio for law and justice, voiced sorrow in Taxila, told reporters he understood what had unfolded, called the loss of a blameless resident a grave matter that could not be brushed aside, and instructed the Rawalpindi CPO to run an open, unbiased investigation.
