Automakers' body seeks audit of National Tariff Policy data

The association says inaccurate figures could hurt local factories, investment and jobs, and it wants further tariff changes deferred until a review is complete.

The Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) asked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to guide an independent review of the tariff data and method behind the National Tariff Policy (NTP).

PAMA wants the simple and trade-weighted average tariff figures checked against World Trade Organization (WTO) statistics on a like-for-like basis.

The association urged the government to defer tariff adjustments that depend on the disputed baseline until the review is finished.

PAMA warned that inaccurate figures could weaken supply chains, discourage investment and hurt employment and exports.

The sources report no government response to the request and no timeline for a review.
