Beijing makes avoiding Mideast hostilities a top priority
China Middle East policy now centres on stopping a return to war, with Beijing offering to back Iran-US talks, a Yemen settlement and a Strait of Hormuz reopening.
China’s foreign ministry says avoiding a return to Middle East hostilities is its top diplomatic priority.
Spokeswoman Mao Ning warned that resumed fighting would bring disaster for people in the region.
Beijing says it will support Iran and the United States in resolving disputes through negotiations.
China also says it will promote a political settlement on Yemen and help reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The remarks follow a fresh US war threat against Iran over the weekend, amid an eight-month regional crisis.
