Egypt authorises Sisi to aid Saudi defence vs Houthis
Lawmakers authorised President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to take all necessary measures if Riyadh asks for help, limited to defending Saudi territory after Houthi strikes.
Egypt’s parliament on Monday authorised President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to take “all necessary measures” to help Saudi Arabia defend itself against Houthi attacks.
At least two-thirds of the chamber backed the step; any assistance still depends on a formal request from Riyadh.
Cairo says help would be limited to defending Saudi territory and borders, not attacking Yemen.
Egypt has not joined the August Makkah mutual defence pact involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
Houthi strikes have hit Riyadh’s airport and Saudi Aramco, disrupting flights and oil exports; Bab al-Mandeb shipping routes are under strain.
