Leghari flags end to six-month higher rate after 200 units
Electricity bill relief for 200 units would scrap the six-month jump to a steeper slab after a one-unit overshoot, Energy Minister Awais Leghari told the Senate.
Awais Leghari told the Senate the government wants to stop six-month higher billing after usage crosses 200 units by a single unit.
He said the 200-unit cut-off could move up to 250 units.
Senator Abid Sher Ali said a jump from 200 to 201 units can lift the rate from Rs15 to Rs30 per unit and lock in the 400-unit slab for six months.
About 20 million users stay under 200 units; Leghari said a broad discount would not suit solar-fed homes and should favour those below the poverty line.
Manual detection bills are banned; DISCOs must use a central digital portal, with new caps on meter and theft recovery periods.
