Rs2.56 September FPA decision pending as winter costs loom
Power Division sources say the monthly fuel surcharge may multiply from December through February as LNG, coal costs and weak hydro output lift generation expense.
Power Division sources expect the fuel price adjustment to multiply by about two to three times from December through February.
Dearer LNG and coal, tighter winter gas for plants, and lower hydro output are cited as the main cost drivers.
NEPRA has not yet ruled on a September FPA request of Rs2.56 a unit, which would add Rs32.66 billion for consumers nationwide.
CPPA put September’s average fuel cost at Rs10.02 a unit versus a Rs7.46 projection; generation outlays totalled Rs127.87 billion.
Officials said earlier daily supply curtailments held September’s sought FPA far below a possible Rs5–Rs6 a unit.
