GCU Lahore to be called Government College Lahore again
A Punjab Higher Education Department notice dated 23 October directs the campus to drop University from its title while keeping higher-education functions unchanged.
Government College University Lahore will again be known as Government College Lahore under a Punjab legislative change.
The Public Sector Universities (Amendment) Act, 2026, and a 23 October Higher Education Department notice cover six public institutions.
University-style teaching and other higher-education functions are to continue; only the official names change.
How degrees and certificates will show the new legal name is not yet clear, and no completion deadline was set.
An alumnus welcomed the move and urged attention to academic standards as well as the restored title.
