Iran says four tankers catch fire after Hormuz mines
Iran’s IRGC and army say vessels struck mines on an unauthorised Hormuz route a day after the US said key lanes were cleared; a British maritime agency reported different incidents.
Iran’s armed forces say four tankers caught fire after hitting mines while trying to transit the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC said three oil tankers exploded on the unauthorised southern route after switching off radar and ignoring navy warnings.
Iran’s army later reported a fourth tanker on fire east of the strait in a restricted area.
UKMTO reported a burning dhow that sank and a tanker hit by an unknown projectile, not matching Iran’s mine account.
IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebi challenged CENTCOM’s claim that primary Hormuz routes have been cleared of mines.
