Islamabad education reforms: 1,100 teachers, new authority
The plan would create an independent body covering schools and education providers across Islamabad, with legislation and a transition roadmap due within 60 days.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal ordered officials to prepare legislation and a transition roadmap for an autonomous education authority within 60 days.
The proposed authority would have a Board of Governors with an independent majority and a chief executive chosen on merit.
The Federal Directorate of Education runs 432 institutions, and about 77 per cent of its expenditure ceiling goes on employee-related costs.
A proposed 1,100 teachers would be recruited through the Federal Public Service Commission, and contract hiring is under review.
Three working groups have been formed, and the FDE must keep functioning while the change is made.
