Islamabad hotel fines hiked; five-room hotels now covered

Parliament has amended the 1976 hotels law for the capital only, lifting registration and hygiene penalties and bringing five-room lodgings under regulation.

The National Assembly has passed the Pakistan Hotels and Restaurants (Amendment) Bill, 2026; the Senate cleared it on 10 June 2026.

The maximum fine for failing to apply for registration rises from Rs5,000 to Rs250,000; the daily continuing fine rises from Rs1,000 to Rs10,000.

Penalties for contaminated food, ignoring official orders, overcharging and improper star advertising also rise sharply.

Hotels with five lettable rooms (down from ten) fall under the law in the Islamabad Capital Territory only.

Authorities gain clearer power to seal premises, with help from local administration and police.
