Petroleum-led panel to rewrite LPG rules amid Rs7,200 bottles
LPG prices in Pakistan today for 11.57kg bottles run Rs6,000–Rs7,200 after supply squeezes, as an eight-minister panel weighs import and pricing rule changes.
PM Shehbaz Sharif has named an eight-member ministerial panel, led by the petroleum minister, to examine LPG policy changes and report within a month.
Retail bottles of 11.57kg are selling for Rs6,000–Rs7,200, well above the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA, the fuel price regulator) notified rate of Rs3,296.
A draft plan would shift bulk imports and monthly price-setting from OGRA to state firms such as Pakistan State Oil, with costs then passed to private players.
Producers would pay into a differential fund for targeted BISP subsidies; 10% of local output would go to remote areas, with 90% auctioned to bottlers.
Dealers and marketers protested over lack of consultation and warn state importers lack experience and a local levy could lift costs further.
