Blasting near Swat Motorway tunnel alarms heritage experts
Activists and archaeologists say blasting and stone-crushing near the tunnel could damage the Malakand gas line and Hathi-lar, a road believed to be about 2,000 years old.
Activists and archaeologists say mining, blasting and stone-crushing near the Swat Motorway tunnel threaten a historic road and the gas main serving Malakand Division.
The archaeology department had flagged the issue to Malakand's deputy commissioner last August.
The road, known as Hathi-lar or Elephant Road, is believed to be around 2,000 years old.
Malakand commissioner Iqbal Hussain promised immediate action on the mining and blasting.
The Khyber Path project plans a 125km tourism trail along the motorway.
