$3.5m PASBET project starts with Sajawal biomass plant
The Pinnah Reserved Forest facility, opened under the $3.5 million PASBET project, will turn forest and farm residues into cleaner fuel and is the first of four planned sites.
Pakistan’s first biomass energy demonstration plant is now operating in Sajawal, Sindh, inside Pinnah Reserved Forest.
UNDP and the Sindh government jointly inaugurated the facility under the GEF-funded PASBET project.
PASBET is a five-year, $3.5 million programme covering Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Three more demonstration sites are planned to show woody biomass technologies at scale.
The model centres on pellets, community nurseries and efficient cookstoves from local residues.
