US presses Pakistan to cut Iran land routes as Gabd partly reopens

Washington wants Iran’s land routes shut; after 17 October closures at Taftan and Gabd-Rimdan, Pakistan has partly reopened the Pakistan Iran border for LPG.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington is working with Pakistan and Türkiye to cut off all land routes to Iran.

On 17 October, Pakistan closed trade at the Taftan and Gabd-Rimdan crossings in Balochistan; hundreds of trucks were stranded and LPG imports disrupted.

Pakistan imports about 7,000 tons of LPG from Iran daily, with more than 4,000 tons normally moving through Gabd-Rimdan.

The Foreign Office did not confirm US pressure behind the closure and said Pakistan adheres to applicable sanctions regimes.

Gabd-Rimdan has been reopened for LPG tankers and essential goods; full normal trade has not yet resumed.
