Minister sets 3.5 t/ha wheat yield target with CIMMYT
Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain met CIMMYT’s wheat chiefs in Islamabad, urging better seed, research and a Host Country Agreement now ready to sign.
Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain urged deeper CIMMYT cooperation to raise wheat output and build an exportable surplus.
He set a yield goal of 3.5 tonnes per hectare and pointed to recent import needs and a productivity gap.
CIMMYT said five wheat research labs were upgraded in 2026, 21 seed banks set up in 20 districts, and 15 scientists trained abroad.
A Host Country Agreement with CIMMYT has been finalised and is ready for signing.
