PTA begins blocking WhatsApp accounts on inactive SIMs
Pakistan’s telecom regulator says the step follows an awareness drive and aims to stop misuse when cancelled numbers are later reissued to new subscribers.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has begun blocking WhatsApp accounts registered on inactive or cancelled SIMs.
Officials say cancelled numbers can be reissued to new users, which can leave a former owner’s WhatsApp open to misuse.
The crackdown follows an awareness campaign urging people to keep WhatsApp on active numbers they still control.
A PTA spokesperson says users should check that their SIMs are active and update WhatsApp if they change numbers.
