Punjab to outsource 6,460 more public schools in phase four
The Punjab Education Department will shift 5,860 primary and middle schools and has proposed including 600 high schools for the first time, after 13,600 were outsourced earlier.
The Punjab Education Department has started a fourth phase that will hand 6,460 public schools to private management.
Of that total, 5,860 are primary and middle schools; 600 high schools are proposed for inclusion for the first time.
A spokesperson said on Thursday that poor infrastructure and falling enrolment underpin the high-school proposal.
In the first three phases, 13,600 public schools were already outsourced.
After this phase, government-run schools in Punjab are expected to fall from about 38,000 to roughly 31,500.
