Sindh to install air quality stations across 23 districts

The provincial environment department would lead a World Bank–linked network of continuous monitors, building on systems already started in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur.

Sindh has proposed a $7 million project for continuous air quality monitoring stations in 23 districts.

The Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development Department would lead, with district administrations as partners.

Stations would measure CO, nitrogen oxides, SO2, PM2.5, PM10, SPM and ground-level ozone, plus weather data.

Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur already have a Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System; other districts still need coverage.

Goals include better pollution data, public health risk assessment, early warnings and tracking of Pakistan’s climate pledges.
