US firms seek Ogra licence for $4.4bn Port Qasim LNG plan
Sponsors plan four LNG tanks and a 1,100km pipeline under a merchant model, with proposed terminal charges of $4.93 per mmBtu in the first decade.
A US-linked private consortium is proposing an integrated LNG project in Pakistan valued at up to $4.4 billion.
Phase one would build a Port Qasim terminal with four tanks (560,000 cubic metres) for about $1.7 billion; phase two adds a 1,100km upcountry pipeline.
Sponsors say Port Qasim Authority has consented to the site and an Ogra provisional-licence application has been filed.
Proposed first-decade tariffs: $4.93 per mmBtu for terminal and storage, and $1.91 per mmBtu for transmission.
Local investors may take up to 10% equity; major funds named as possible co-investors have not given binding commitments.
